Jackson wrote:An old client of my business, The WordSmith Shop, has asked if I can re-generate copies of some short stories. My old system (the one these files were saved on) used WordPerfect and 3.5 inch disks. I no longer have the CPU, although I did save these files to 3.5-inch disks before getting rid of it.
There are a couple other "particulars" I have encountered in trying to get these files updated, but I'll not go into detail until I see whether anyone has a clue where to start.
If you can help me out, I would GREATLY appreciate it!
Thanks in advance,

Whack it in the toaster, the moisture will desiccate, it'll shrink in the process and then it should fit into an ordinary floppy disk slot!
However, dont use the microwave, because if the metal bits inside.
If you only have CD/DVD drive iron it on the silk setting.

ooby_dooby wrote:OK, You have a hardware problem and a software problem.
For the hardware problem namely no computer with a 3.5" and CD drive I suggest you either find someone with a pc with both drives and copy everything onto CD(s) 1 CD will probably hold at least 5 floppies. Or go to a computer dealer to get the files transfered onto CD's.
Next I'm sure word can read a wordperfect file. Just save it as a .doc file.
Yup, both a h/w & s/w prob. Now, for the rest of the story:
Took my disks to a family member's PC with a 3.5-inch drive. It is also an old-style system, with an older version of WordPerfect.
Was able to see the files list. Stuffed the disks back in my purse. Next time I was at the copy shop, I tried to pull up the file list from those disks and it showed that there were no files on them!
The copy shop has a more recent version of WordPerfect than what the files were prepared in, as well as state-of-the-art hardware.
I've no idea whether those disks (2 of them) somehow got "zapped" (like with my cell phone or something), whether disks prepared on the ancient system just aren't compatible, etc.
I DO plan to go back to the family member's PC to see if the files still show up there but have not been close enough to stop in lately.
Do you know whether the files can be "recovered" on a floppy? If so, what program would one use?
Thanks for your help!
