WHAT IF YOU WERE ADOPTED??
Posted: Jun 23, 2008, 6:43 PM CST

Am doing some research and thought I'd check with the good folks on CS for input.

If you had been adopted at a very young age, what would your concerns have been??

Should you have personal experience with adoptions, I would GREATLY appreciate any and all input.

Happy Monday evening, everyone!
wine And thanks in advance for your input! applause

My brother is adopted

My boss is adopted. She found her siblings, knows her medical history, her biological birth mother's history. Do not know about the father's history... if she has that.

She is close to most of the siblings or half siblings. She was fasinated to find out how some of them are so similar personality wise, and physically.

My aunt met her daughter (given up for adoption as a baby) and it just floored everyone how much alike they were. They at their hamburgers the same ... even how they preferred the pickles and relish etc. They definately looked a like. As if they were looking in a mirror. My aunt knew she could not take on a mother role for her daughter after they were reunited. It was a positive reunion. My aunt also was able to pass away at ease knowing her daughter was raised well and loved, and meeting her daughter that she never forgot was more than she could have asked for.

My mother looks after foster kids. They still come and visit with their adoptive parents. Some were old enough to know they were getting adopted. (5 yrs old and older). So far they are all happy. Kids know they had other parents. One knows and remembers snips and bits about his biological mother and siblings. He has great parents, and has come such a long way from the time I first met him.

I am not sure if that helps.

my mother was adopted, as for what you would want to know I would want to know about past medical issues in family. for example I have a heritary desiese that if not treated you get cancer and die by the time you are 30. diabites, mental illness, and heart conditons are also a big thing.

I am adopted.

I have known this all my life & have had contact with my birth mother the whole time also.

I do not know my birth father, (neither does my mother) I used to want to know about hereditary problems, I was a little concerned that by not knowing who my natural father is, there would be some remote possibility that I could meet an attractive lady one day & start a relationship with my sister or cousin. I know it's a very slim possibility but...... Murphy's Law & all that! confused

I used to look in the mirror & wonder if I looked anything like him, these days i'm just happy to be me & I know that I am who I am not because of my biological father but because of the people I have had IN my life.

In my adopted family I faced snide remarks from my siblings (well one in particular) that I wasn't blood & he should get preferential treatment because he was,

I actually believed him for most of my life.

I can only help my kids with family tree projects & the like to the point of my birth mother's family, so they feel the effects of my adoption to a certain extent also.

There are lots of issues that surround adoption but it's more about maturity levels when it's all boiled down. Growth in ones self sees self doubt & questioning diminishing in latter years.

Best of luck with your research wave
