sweetowen: Yeah, I agree. But then, I guess we can choose not to pay attention to it or respond. As mama always said, "If ya just ignore him, he'll stop it & go away." Mama was soooo smart!!

Mom's are usually right on target for the most part too! Have you noticed that?

Mine was famous for all those old time quotes that are always useful and so wise.. Comments I still use to this day. And comments I often pass along.

Things like "Haste Makes Waste" and "Sonny-Boy, There are Many Fish in the Sea" and "Do it Right the First Time.." and things like "If you Vote for Obama, Youi'll be Sorry Later!".

You know. Stuff like that. All just ringing with phenomenal wisdom!

Gee I sure hope it's not two years before we all start to recover JBibiza..

But anything is possible. As so many have said though, this seems to be a global thing, not only affecting the USA or the UK.

What's going on here is very troubling to those who have retirement packages in the form of IRAs and 401ks though, as well as small businesses, since the stock market here is taking such a rough hit.

But I'm just trying to get some details in lay terms about what "it" really is. Few in the news are really discussing details, just overviews and the potential fallout of it all.

I do.

Well now see? You've committed your economic expertise to the issue at hand. So how about telling those of us who don't have a real good handle on it, what you believe is actually going on in some detail, beyond the subjective conclusion "That we are all in deep doo-doo".

Some seem to like the plan, whatever it may be, but others don't. And still others are resistant to commit that kind of funds, without a lot more awareness and a lot more oversight. I tend to follow the latter mindset, but I don't want to suggest I understand something that I really don't..

I didn't realize there were others somewhat like it.

Anyway comments are still welcomed. as long as it is still here.

I am not an economist by any stretch, D'oh! or even an accountant.

So there's a lot about the Wall Street thing I admittedly don't completely understand. As in why all these huge companies need bailing out by the Fed, (That's you and me), and why it's necessary for their executives to make out like bandits with multi-million dollar severance packages.

But I am very leery of what Sect'y Paulsen is asking for, $700 Billion in Tax money, almost as a blank check, overnight, and don't ask any questions, (pretty much), just leave it to him. This of course is the Bush/Cheney plan too, and look at all they've already done to us over the last 8 years. Is this just one last, very expensive, hurrah??

Does anyone here have a pretty in depth handle on what's really going on and the logic behind it? And whether you do or not, what do you think of the entire matter? Short of the Great Depression, who ever heard of this kind of mess before? conversing

Okay, I'll go first! grin

I kinda like Palin.. 2 thumbs up She's very refreshing in presidential politics for a change. Whether I agree with her on everything or not, it's very cool (if unusual), to have someone as a candidate who actually has real scruples and real values, and truly seems to live by them.

After 8 years of Bush/Cheney, she may be just what this country needs.

However the beating she's been taking in the Media (especially MSNBC) is brutal, inhumane and very unreasonable. Such hate-promoting organizations and their mouth-pieces, such as Loony Keith Olbermann, should be ashamed of themselves.

They're turning the Presidential election into the National Enquirer! wow!

In response to: Poor Barack and Michelle are BOTH having SUCH a hard times seeming credible at this point.

He was the guy who was going to stay above-board and not sink to personal attacks in the campaign. Now every other word he says is a personal attack. Can we say "Desperation"? The guy has become very angry, and in my view, insecure...

That's what he gets for taking on something that is way over his head and skipping all the normal steps people usually take to get there.

Major corporations don't recruit college students as their CEO's either. Why would the USA elect a rookie as the leader of the Free World?

It makes no sense! Where's the logic?

In response to:
WhatUwish4: Couldn't agree more. His attacks have reached a childish all time low

And now Obama's got all those legal investigators up in Alaska trying to stir up any little scrap of dirt they possibly can on Governor Palin, her kids, her family, her hubby, hacking her private email. PLEASE! Well, I guess ya gotta spend all those massive campaign contribution dollars somehow. rolling eyes

The problem is though, as purely negative attacks and fabrications usually do, it IS taking something of a toll.

Is this really what we want in the White House? Lowly thug tactics? Win at ANY cost, no matter what? A highly paid professional smear machine? This guy makes Karl Rove look like an amateur!!

Yet the Obama-frenzy-set still believes he's just wonderful and a breath of fresh air for hope and change, with a refreshing new style of honorable, above-board politics. wow!

There are SOOO many background baggage issues in Chicago, Rezko, Wright, Ayers, et al, to bash Obama about, I'm surprised the Repubs aren't doing that.

dazzling_dave: Chicken Little must have been a Democrat.

Yup! The sky was still up there yesterday at 6:15PM, as I recall. Was still blue too. The situation we're in isn't pretty by any means, but with solid leadership, (that means other than Obama/Biden), America still can, and will, recover!

Can't believe Obama and the hardcore lefties sent some 50 (FIFTY) legal investigators up to Alaska to see if they could dig up any dirt on Governor Palin. That's how some of his competitors were eliminated in Illinois State elections too, including his very own mentor. Got a real thug-like mentality going on there. But then, when your best friends are people like Tony Rezko....

That bunch are not playing HardBall, they are playing DumbBall...

Why don't they just stay in Chicago? PLENTY of dirt around there to be had.

As has already been discussed, Bipolar Disorder (formerly known as Manic Depression), does not equate to insane. In fact insane per se, really isn't a medical diagnosis, except as it sometimes applies in a criminal court.

However a lot of folks might be very surprised just how many Bipolar people are around them every day. Could be your boss, someone who works for you, a customer, or a peer. Its quite common. Even could be someone you are having a relationship with. There are many levels of BPD, but the vast majority of them are pretty well controlled by medication, as long as they take it, and most do. We may never realize a person has this disorder on a casual-contact level.

In this individual's case, it probably had a lot less to do with BPD than it did that he was just a very vindictive and mean-spirited person, as well as drunk, and very angry, with extremely poor judgment.

It is indeed a horrible scenario though. And I suspect he will pay for it dearly. But probably not as a mentally deranged person. More likely as attempted murder. And rightfully so.

I should clarify a little. I was here back in the Spring the first time I think, when I first signed up. So I've met a few folks here and may seem a bit familiar. And I may have done an intro before. Not real sure, because unfortunately I still don't know what I'm a-doin'.. Ha! grin But anyway, went away and didn't make it back right away. Wasn't getting any email notifications either. But that's fixed now.

I just have to go through the agony of re-writing a profile and all that, at some point. help

Nice to meet fellow Tennesseans any ole day!

Well, that's not quite what McCain said.. grin

He said we're in serious trouble right now, (and we are), but that he believes America has the spunk and the spirit it takes to pull our way up out of the muck, the work ethic, problem solving capability, things like that. (And we do).

I'd have to agree with that. It won't be easy, but we'll still be around next year, the year after that, and probably the year after that even. cheers Mainly we have to select our leaders very very carefully this time, and make sure they are telling it like it is, and not trying to manipulate the facts, or us either.

But since the source for that statement was www.barackobama.com.. rolling on the floor laughing Well, got to consider that too.

BOILED PEANUTS (Sept 24 - Oct 23) - You have a passionate desire to help your fellow man. Unfortunately, those who know you best - your friends and loved ones - may find that your personality is much too salty, and their criticism will probably affect you deeply because you are really much softer than you appear. You should go right ahead and marry anybody you want to because in a certain way, yours is a charmed life. On the road of life, you can be sure that people will always pull over and stop for you.

BUTTER BEAN (Oct 24 - Nov 22) - Always invite a Butter Bean because Butter Beans get along well with everybody. You, as a Butter Bean, should be proud. You've grown on the vine of life and you feel at home no matter what the setting. You can sit next to anybody. However, you, too, shouldn't have anything to do with Moon Pies.

ARMADILLO (Nov 23 - Dec 21) - You have a tendency to develop a tough exterior, but you are actually quite gentle. A good evening for you? Old friends, a fire, some roots, fruit, worms and insects. You are a throwback. You're not concerned with today's fashions and trends. You're not concerned with anything about today. You're really almost prehistoric in your interests and behavior patterns. You probably want to marry another Armadillo, but Possum is another somewhat kinky, mating possibility.

What's Your "REDNECK" Sign?

This has a lot to do with your dating potential and gittin' hitched potential too! Some of us (especially REDNECKS) are pretty skeptical of horoscopes, and it has become obvious that what we need are our own "REDNECK" symbols. So here they are! cheering

OKRA (Dec 22 - Jan 20) - Although you appear crude, you are actually very slick on the inside. Okras have tremendous influence. An older Okra can look back over his life and see the seeds of his influence everywhere. Stay away from Moon Pies.

CHITLIN (Jan 21 - Feb 19) - Chitlins come from humble backgrounds. A chitlin, however, can make something of himself if he's motivated and has lots of seasoning. In dealing with Chitlins, be careful. They can erupt like Vesuvius. Chitlins are best with Catfish and Okra.

BOLL WEEVIL (Feb 20 - Mar 20) - You have an overwhelming curiosity. You're unsatisfied with the surface of things, and you feel the need to bore deep into the interior of everything. Needless to say, you are very intense and driven as if you had some inner hunger. Nobody in their right mind is going to marry you, so don't worry about it.

MOON PIE (Mar 21 - Apr 20) - You're the type that spends a lot of time on the front porch. It's a cinch to recognize the physical appearance of Moon Pies. Big and round are the key words here. You should marry anybody who you can get remotely interested in the idea. It's not going to be easy. This might be the year to think about aerobics. Or - maybe not.

POSSUM (Apr 21 - May 21) - When confronted with life's difficulties, possums have a marked tendency to withdraw and develop a don't-bother-me-about-it attitude. Sometimes you become so withdrawn, people actually think you're dead. This strategy is probably not psychologically healthy, but seems to work for you. One day, however, it won't work and you may find your problems actually running you over.

CRAWFISH (May 22 - June 21) - Crawfish is a water sign. If you work in an office, you're always hanging around the water cooler. Crawfish prefer the beach to the mountains, the pool to the golf course, the bathtub to the living room. You tend to be not particularly attractive physically, but you have very, very good heads.

COLLARDS (June 22 - July 23) - Collards have a genius for communication. They love to get in the "melting pot" of life and share their essence with the essence of those round them.. Collards make good social workers, psychologists, and baseball managers. As far as your personal life goes, if you are Collards, stay away from Moon Pies. It just won't work. Save yourself a lot of heartache.

CATFISH (July 24 - Aug 23) - Catfish are traditionalists in matters of the heart, although one's whiskers may cause problems for loved ones. You catfish are never easy people to understand. You prefer the muddy bottoms to the clear surface of life. Above all else, Catfish should stay away from Moon Pies.

GRITS (Aug 24 - Sept 23) - Your highest aim is to be with others like yourself. You like to huddle together with a big crowd of other Grits. You love to travel though, so maybe you should think about joining a club. Where do you like to go? Anywhere they have cheese or gravy or bacon or butter or eggs. If you can go somewhere where they have all these things, that serves you well.

...Too Many Characters. To Be Continued...

Newest kid on the block here, just getting my feet wet and finding out about all the goodies CS has available for us. I am musical, and currently residing in the general Music City area of Central Tennessee, (Tater Patch is something of a tiny suburb), although I actually prefer the Eastern areas of our beautiful State a bit, at least in terms of topography. Some of the beauty here is almost unfathomable.

Recently moved back to TN from Hawaii where the sand and surf and the palm trees, combined with the majestic mountain ranges provide both types of settings, and everything in between, short of ice and snow, laugh where the weather is amazingly stable. Usually pretty much 72 - 82 degrees year 'round, considering the trade winds. cheering and where hardly anyone uses A/C. Aloha to all of you.

Nashville has changed dramatically in 20-ish years though. Almost hard to recognize parts of it now. And the music industry has as well. It's become a little urban for my tastes here now, but this is still where most of the music comes from.

I also write computer proggies, design web sites, and what-not, and have been known as the "Tennis Menace" on occasion, in the not so distant past. FORE!! Oh wait, that's that other sport. blues

I love a good adventure and I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting things that would fit that description. Adventure comes in many forms and there's lots of it in Tennessee.

I have been known to dabble a bit into the SuperNatural from time to time as well. Fascinating stuff! What potential..

Greetings to ya! grin
