mbcasey: I have severe bipolar disorder and I am probably more sane than most people on this forum...
People with bipolar disorder are like snowflakes...everyone is different. Some may need special care, some are highly functional, some are in between.
Get to know someone before you make a decision weather to date them or not. If you are very uncomfortable with it, then move on to the next person. No harm no foul.
Starlin is right...it is a disease like any other. If you take meds, you can live a productive life. Patty Duke has bipolar disorder...Mike Wallace.
I have severe bipolar disorder. If you met me you would never know. Most people do not want to take a chance to get to know me. I can't blame them....I accept that decision. It's hard though being 46 years old and never married with no children. Alot of people take that for granted, but it is the only thing I wanted in life. I don't think it will happen for me. But I have to keep hoping and trying.
Question: I have been here for more than 2 years. Have I ever been banned? Has anyone seen me lose control and get into alot of arguements? See? I am one of the sanest people here....
That's why we love you Ken. We apprciate you for YOU...not what you may suffer and deal with. You always come strong and are in everyone's corner. That's the best kind of friend around.
My twin brother also suffers from it. On a bad day he knows he needs help. When things go back up again he denies every having a problem. Being a twin I thought I would have it, but I don't. I've seen the destruction it can leave in someone's life. Not only to themselves, but to the family and loved ones. Would I date someone with it? Of course. At least knowing they accept and deal with it, everyone learns and copes. When you love someone, that's what you do. You look at them for who they are, not what they have.
Hugs Ken. We're all proud of you.
