I rather bring home a puppy then decide I don't want it...than bring home a child and decide the same thing. I wish more people thought like thisprofessor

Not really.... but I can't speak for others and if there are those that, for whatever reason, need that... I, personally, can't find fault with it!!

I have never had children but I have had dogs. My dogs were my best friends, without a doubt, and to some extent "my babies", yes, but.... had I had children I still would've had dogs, I have had dogs most of my life.

If there are those that seek that "substitute", good luck to them, its no harm to anyone else..... if it brings them some of the happiness and fulfilment they seek.......

And.... I STILL miss 'em!! crying

Some people may not be able to have children, and adopting is not all that easy when you go thru legitimate channels. So some people have pets as substitutes and I personally see nothing wrong with this. To me it means the person(s) are just overflowing with love and need a recipient for that love. jmo.

I personally prefer pets to babies. Less ethical dilemmas, less commitment in most cases, and no need to worry about putting them through college or dealing with any hassles they might bring while dealing with the world. Not to mention, plain old discomfort around kids. If a kitten mews plaintively, it doesn't annoy me the way a child's crying does.

People who cannot have babies substitute pets for their kids.

Pets are worthless - this coming from a pet lover.

I want to have babies so that when they grow up they can mow the lawn.

That and also take care of my pets. rolling on the floor laughing

I don't keep pets as a substitute for babies - I wouldn't want a baby. rolling eyes (Hard to explain why, long story, but at any rate I cannot compare kids and pets, as I have very limited experience with kids)

Some people should have pets instead of babies. If more people would think about what a responsibility it is to have a child, instead of just popping them out like Pez dispensers, we'd have a lot less neglected and abused kids in the world.

I think it's each person's individual choice, and not one to be made lightly.

depends which pet it is. I'd rather have 1 cat instead of a kid. But' if it was a choice between a dog and a kid then I'd rather have ten kids professor

Thank you. That is my position exactly. I didn't grow up with babies and while toddlers can sometimes be quite cute, they can also be rather too energetic and quite a handful. The fact is that I just can't relate well to kids and they kinda make me nervous.

There are lots of unwanted pets out there along with children. That's why if I ever become financially stable enough to keep a pet, I plan to adopt one from the Humane Society. I also prefer an adult cat to a kitten, due to the aforementioned energy. Young animals seem to be like young kids.

About cats in heat: I may have heard them before. It does sound pretty bad. Haha. But the cats were heard from a distance, while a screaming child was my neighbor. So it's all about perspective.
