Well, trust me, I am a forgiver and totally understand that we all make some bad decisions as we go through certain phases during life. I'm all for giving second and third chances.

The point I was making to Tom was that some people hold our leaders to unrealistic standards. I mean, presidential candidates do have two arms and two legs just like me and you, and to focus on their past and make an assessment for how they will do in the future is really kinda unfair, but can be fair depending on the dynamics and circumstances of any given situation.
Kansan, you are gonna have to strengthen your argument. I'm not buying it. Drawing parallels between Lincoln and Bush is just a way to ignore the horrible atrocities that the Bush administration and their connections have committed. Today shows it and tomorrow will only continue to confirm it. How on earth can GW Bush ever be vindicated in the future? Where can you even fathom to make a solid argument? Your last post absolutely strengthened your argument from a vantage point of speculation and perspective. However,
the world was a different place during the Civil War as opposed to today. There are different things at stake, especially on a global level. So in my honest assessment, I really don't see any benefit of comparing 1865 to 2007. Those two wars are not even in the same ballpark. The whole core of this issue is justification. Of course using history as our guide can prove to be essential in order to see the big picture. I just think drawing parallels from the Civil War to the current war really does not put things in a tidy nutshell.

I can add in my 2 kronors and draw parallels from other imperialistic wars or endeavors to put things in the sexy clear. But I won't. I might be called anti America
