| | Epitaph Posted: Oct 1, 2008, 4:26 PM CST | I buried my mum yesterday afternoon.
She passed away peacefully in sleep Sunday night. She was 85, still fully lucid, still bossy as ever, still the mum I knew.
In life, she had the incredible capacity of rubbing me off the wrong way within half an hour of being in each others company, but she remained to the end, my mum.
And now that she is finally at peace with dad, as she always wanted to be, I can look back..........and it suddenly dawns on me.
My father passed away a couple of years back at 89. My mum, 85. Both of them enjoyed the gift of life to the very end. And with all the differences that may have evolved over the years, of one thing I am now sure.
My father gave me dignity. The balance of right and wrong.
My mum gave me pride. She thought me to hold my head high.
Together they gave me that which I am today. For which I am eternally grateful.
So in remembrance of their passing away, I raise my glass and propose a toast.......
Here's to life....with grateful thanks to both my parents.
